How We Score Movers
Independent directory — not affiliated with listed movers. We do not sell leads or match you with carriers. This page explains every number you see on our directory — reputation scores, review counts, verification badges, and how we vet listings.
What is FMCSA? FMCSA is the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration — the U.S. agency that licenses interstate movers. Licensed by the U.S. Department of Transportation for interstate (state-to-state) moves.
How we vet our movers
Move Trust Hub is a curated research directory. Before a mover earns a verified listing, we apply the checks below using public FMCSA data and editorial filters.
- 1Valid USDOT and MC numbers
We require a real USDOT number that passes format checks. Placeholder, sequential, or fabricated numbers are excluded from the public directory.
- 2Active operating authority
For verified listings we confirm the carrier shows active interstate authority in public FMCSA SAFER data (not revoked or inactive).
- 3Insurance on file (FMCSA)
Interstate authority generally requires cargo and liability insurance on file with FMCSA. We surface safety/authority status from SAFER so you can re-check before booking.
- 4No active federal out-of-service order
Carriers flagged out of service or with critical authority alerts are not presented as “FMCSA Verified.” Serious SAFER flags are highlighted when we detect them.
- 5Curated listings — not a raw scrape
We do not dump every name from public web scrapes. Listings must pass license checks; many region placeholders and generated template IDs are filtered out of public rankings.
- 6Attributed reviews kept separate
Named Google review excerpts we publish are counted honestly and never mixed with industry-wide review totals from third-party sites.
This is a curated research directory — not a raw scrape of every company name on the internet. You should still re-verify USDOT authority on FMCSA.gov before booking.
Reputation Score (0–100)
Our Reputation Score is an editorial composite (0–100) — not a simple star average. Scores above 85 generally indicate safer interstate choices. We never fabricate reviews or inflate ratings.
- 30%Review volume & recency
Named, attributable reviews with enough volume to be meaningful. We prioritize recent feedback from the last 24 months.
- 25%FMCSA safety & complaints
USDOT authority status, safety rating, and complaint-to-shipment ratio from public FMCSA records.
- 15%Years in business
Operating history and stability for interstate household goods moves.
- 15%BBB accreditation
Accreditation status and letter grade where publicly available.
- 15%Customer trend signals
Recent rating trajectory and consistency across review sources.
Scores at or above 85 generally indicate safer interstate choices. We recalculate when FMCSA data refreshes or new attributable reviews are published. Scores are editorial composites — not star averages.
Review Attribution
Move Trust Hub publishes attributed Google customer reviews (named reviewers) and moderated community submissions — not reviews written by the movers. Industry-reported review volumes on profiles reflect third-party platforms and are never mixed into our on-site attributed total.
